Current Studies & Research

Major components of our study will be:

1) Analysis of human eyes with IOLs obtained post-mortem from eye banks. This includes a constant accession of new material from eye banks nationwide, as well as, continuous evaluation of eyes in our database ranging from 1981 through 1999.

Our most recent successful evaluations have been on the topics of blue blocking IOLs and glistenings.

There are several other topics that require our independent study.

2) We continue to evaluate explanted IOLs from clinical cases with complications. If you have relevant clinical data, explants, or photographic material, we would be pleased to receive these from you to add to our database. These materials can easily be sent to us at the address here.

These studies will be our specialties’ last chance to independently referee the quality of these lenses as they enter the market. Otherwise, there is very little oversight. We not only learn from the new material, but also from a look back at the older material—sometimes the best crystal ball is a rearview mirror.
